Character Character Name: Sasha/Athena Fandom:Saint Seiya - The Lost Canvas Timeline: Start of chapter 142, "Goodbye in the Sea of Clouds" Crimes: Stubbornness, selfishness, incitement of war, emotional manipulation, acts of violence, disturbing of peace, favoritism, self-mutilation, paganism.
Personality: Sasha can easily be described as a sweet and kind orphan girl who wants nothing than to be with her gentle-natured brother Alone and their energetic & free spirited friend Tenma. In this trinity of friends, Sasha is the balance between the two: in his excessively gentle nature, Alone is prone to be bullied, only to be saved by a hot-headed Tenma; in spite of it all, Sasha loves them equally.
The day came when she had to be taken away from her friends and brother to awaken and nurture her powers as Athena in her own Sanctuary in Greece. She will be the rally-point of her Saints to fight the Holy War against Hades and his Specters. At first, reconciling the sweet nature of Sasha and the duties brought upon the fact that she is also the Goddess of War had been a difficult task, but thanks to the guidance offered by her Pope and Gold Saints, she had gone through the path of acceptance -- but being on the real battlefield is still a different matter.
After several years, she became reunited with her friends -- but in a manner that she least expected. Alone had become the vessel for Hades, and Tenma had become the legendary Pegasus Saint -- the only mortal to have raised his fist against a god. This causes Sasha great pain -- she wants her brother back, and for the three of them to stop fighting. Much as she has the ability to aid and support her Saints, she had been powerless to prevent their deaths which brings her much sorrow. These heavy losses however, coupled with the determination of the surviving Saints, and Tenma's will of fire, gives her much needed strength and resolve to end the war -- devising strategies and going up to the point of asking the aid of another enemy, Poseidon. She has then grown from being a conflicted little girl, to a young woman who bears the weight of the world on her shoulders.
Fueled by her love of her Saints, and in return, by their devotion to her, Athena would sacrifice anything of her own to give them strength and see their goals through: from a lock of her hair to pay safe passage through the River Styx, to her own blood used to write protective seals, repair Cloths and heal wounds inflicted by enemy gods. She has great trust in her friends and Saints and she is never afraid to stand on the front lines of battle with them, and for them.
Fellow gods wonder as to why the Goddess of War would choose to be reborn in a mortal body -- even her own Saint, Virgo Asmita had thought of her as a "foolish goddess." She said that she had wanted to understand mankind's happiness and dreams, their pain and sorrow -- she had been tasked to protect them after all. This willingness to understand extends not only to her comrades, but to her foes as well; always to ask questions, even if she is brushed away, to the point of embracing the humanity that they have chosen to throw away. This puzzles allies and enemies alike endlessly, as she is stubborn in her belief that there is always good in people.
(1) Physical Abilities : Sasha appears to be your typical maiden-in-distress, but her will to protect her Saints and to carry out her duties as goddess gives her a certain threshold, if not tolerance for pain. This is shown through the use of her own blood, which also carries her divine power. She has yet to show any aptitude for physical/hand-to-hand combat, however she is shown to wield her staff Nike which stands above six feet with ease. As having chosen to be human, Sasha is mortal, and prone to be wounded and to aging.
(2) Skills : As expected of a goddess, it can be said that Athena uses magic/divine power to carry out her tasks. This includes area-effect spiritual barriers that nullifies foes' nefarious spells that can span the size of a small town (ie. preventing Hades from resurrecting his Specters when they "died" in Athena's Sanctuary). This same barrier can, to a certain degree, boost her Saints' powers -- though it will not prevent them from dying. The barrier can hold with maximum efficiency for at least half a day, after which it can weaken, be penetrated by the power of another god and return things to normal until she recovers. These skills can be downsized as well, and can be concentrated on an individual. While still being able to maintain a barrier, Athena can greatly boost a Saint's attack and skills (ie. Sagittarius Sisyphus' targeting and shooting golden arrows.) Her having a mortal body however, makes her vulnerable to fatigue with excessive and continuous use of her powers.
(3) Other skills : An innate skill that she possesses is that she can detect a person's Cosmo (or "aura",) gauge their power and know from afar if a Cosmo is still burning or extinguished (ie if a person is alive or dead.) Sasha can make flower bracelets and her divine power makes them endure. The wearers -- only two in existence: her brother Alone and their great friend Tenma -- are protected from harm (such as lethal attacks), and works like the best good luck charm. Her blood is also shown as an extension of her divine power through the making of special seals written with it, or using it to repair damaged Cloths and heal wounds/curses inflicted by enemy gods. Athena also has her own armor (or "Cloth") and her staff Nike. The Cloth offers extra protection and power to herself and her allies, while Nike has so far been shown as a power conduit.
(4) Languages used : having lived most of her life in an Italian orphanage, she can speak colloquial Italian; and as required by her move to and eventual residence in Athens, she would have been taught to speak, read and write Classical Greek.
Multifandom Test: Athena might just find a real adversary in Kefka -- with all his talk about destroying and killing everything and everyone in his path goes against her own principles of protecting mankind and all things living. Kefka finds beauty and joy in destruction, and she might just see this as a parallel with Hades seeing death as the ultimate salvation -- something that she must stop at all costs. On the other hand, the kindness and mercy in her heart will strive to find the good in Kefka and even try to understand him (there must be a source for all that chaotic behavior he displays, right?) before she thinks of laying divine punishment on him.
Third person sample: The Gold Saggitarius Cloth stood, its arrow pointing towards the bow of the ship that sailed them through the Lost Canvas. It was damaged -- a hole by its heart, reflecting the void that was now in Athena's own heart at the loss of her Saint. She was to show no tears, nor utter a whimper...
... but as she slowly blinked, her eyes was met with a different, yet eerily familiar scenery: past the blur of a blue Morpho butterfly and the greenery of a park and the sounds of people and images swimming in her vision. There was a new addition to what she is seeing : Marina's welcome letter listing her crimes.
Her vision blurred as she fell to her knees and bowed her head, welcome basket ignored, communicator absently dropped to the ground. Here, she was no goddess. This world was no nightmare nor illusion, for the pain in her heart conveyed by her tears were just all too real.
First person sample: [The video feed was at a peculiar angle. Between the foreground of grass and the background of the Butterfly Pavilion was what can be made out was a kneeling form -- white dress, golden corset, long lavender hair, white dress, and an arm adorned with a flower bracelet.
Her face could not be seen but one can easily make out sounds of sniffles, as the other arm went out of frame as the person wiped at her face. Moments late, the communicator is then picked up, cupped in her hands --]
My name is Sasha, and this may be a strange question to ask but -- would someone be so kind as to tell me how much has passed since... since Marina had the unexpected visit from people from other worlds?
